Where change happens: Local governance to tackle multidimensional poverty and inequality

Concept notes and papers

The general objective of this paper is to describe the position of Oxfam and ARCO on how local governance processes play a crucial role in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Strengthening local governance means to rely on dialogue and interaction between local authorities, citizens and other stakeholders within communities in order to identify strategic solutions for Sustainable Human Development at the local level. In addition, a territorial perspective makes it possible to design innovative policies that can shape national and international policy change. Therefore, we believe that a common understanding and framework for local governance is urgently required to build more consistent and effective development strategies and initiatives by engaging with local communities.
